The Alliance for Pioneer Square is pleased to announce the Pioneer Square Alley Lighting Matching Fund. With $50,000 in funding from Historic South Downtown, we aim to support alley lighting improvements in Pioneer Square. The Pioneer Square Alley Lighting Matching Fund supports the Alliance’s initiative to address critical public safety concerns and make strides toward alley revitalization.
The Pioneer Square Alley Lighting Matching Fund will specifically focus on assisting property owners in improving wall-mounted lighting on the alley sides of their buildings. Business owners who obtain written permission from their property owner are also welcome to apply for funding. The funding may be used for:
- New light fixtures
- Replacement light fixtures
- Lighting Designer Consulting Services
- Other related labor
- Lift and necessary installation equipment
- Related Permit fees
One-hundred percent of the funding will go directly toward permanent alley lighting improvements in the Pioneer Square Historic District. Applicants seeking funding may request funds for up to 50% of total project costs, (maximum award is $8,000). Awardees will be required to obtain all necessary city permits, including a Certificate of Approval from the Department of Neighborhoods Pioneer Square Historic Preservation Board.
Applications open on September 28, 2020 and will be accepted through November 6, 2020 at 11:59pm. The Pride & Resilience Public Realm Working Group will make funding recommendations to the Alliance for Pioneer Square’s Board of Directors. Funding decisions can be expected by November 30, 2020.
The Alliance will host a 30 minute informational webinar on October 1st at 1:00 pm led by CJ Brockway, IALD, the Principal of SparkLab Lighting Design, LLC. With over 20 years of experience as an architectural lighting designer, CJ will provide useful lighting design considerations to interested applicants.
