NEW BUSINESSES AND MORE

Manu’s Tacos street-level window is open at 2^nd Ave S & S Main Street. Manu is also sending tacos downstairs to Flatstick Pub. (Golf, beer, and tacos – what a combo!)
Swift Industries is moving next door to their new store and manufacturing space. The story of their bicycle bag business is worth checking out.
Both Emerald City Guitars and Bon Voyage Vintage are expanding. Stay tuned for more details!
Don’t forget the Pioneer Square businesses impacted by construction. Thanks for SDOT’s fun video shout-out for Tony and the 9000 Barbershop on Yesler.
Essential Apothecary Spa is the newest effort by Kate Poole, one of the owners ofE Smith Mercantile, and aesthetician Ingrid Ireland. What a lovely addition to the neighborhood!
Ebbets Field Flannels flagship store has a new home. But don’t worry, they are still here in the Square. Check out their new digs at 108 S Jackson Street.
And though it’s not new, we loved the recent article about our own Waterfall Garden Park, one of the most beautiful places for respite in the city.

This isn’t just a concert, it’s a unique music industry and neighborhood experience in the heart of Pioneer Square. Stages in more than 25 venues throughout the neighborhood will celebrate emerging regional artists (plus a few surprises). Upstream Fest is not limited by genres or popularity, so the likelihood for new discovery will be high. Very high.

Early bird prices are available now, so now would be a good time to buy. Prices will increase closer to the fest. See Upstream Fest’s affordable packages and options here. If you’re interested in a VIP pass, that’s another reason to buy now. A very limited number of those passes–with CRAZY perks–are available. NEIGHBORHOOD PARK AND STREET FUND

PIONEER SQUARE AWARDED FOR 2017 IMPLEMENTATION

The Department of Neighborhood’s Neighborhood Park and Street Fund provides funds annually to neighborhoods for small-scale improvements to streets and parks. The projects are proposed by community members in February of each year and if chosen, are implemented the following year.

This year the Alliance submitted and was awarded $90,000 towards pedestrian and safety enhancements along S King Street from 1st Ave S to King Street Station. Keep an eye out for the changes during 2017!

ALASKAN WAY VIADUCT REPLACEMENT PROJECT

There is more than one way to change a cutterhead tool

Bertha’s rotating cutterhead bristles with more than 700 tools that scrape away the earth in front of the machine. Not all of these tools are the same. Join Brian Nielsen, Deputy Program Administrator – SR 99 Tunnel Director, to learn how these tools work together to scrape and carve away soil beneath downtown Seattle, and the differences between atmospheric interventions and hyperbaric interventions. Caution: it may cause claustrophobia just thinking about the spaces crews have to crawl into!

After the talk, be sure to leave enough time to explore the rest of the First Thursday Art Walk in Pioneer Square. Milepost 31 is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and stays open until 8 p.m. on First Thursdays. Free parking is available for First Thursday art walk patrons in Pioneer Square.
