As the city’s “original neighborhood,” Pioneer Square is a richly historic place known for its Renaissance Revival architecture, First Thursday art walks, unique night life, delicious foodie destinations, and quirky boutiques. The Alliance for Pioneer Square launched a focused Business Development program to support our existing small businesses and actively recruit new retail into our neighborhood. In 2025, we supported 35 new business openings – a 75% increase over the previous year.

An unprecedented number of transit and development projects are impacting Pioneer Square’s public realm. The Alliance works to coordinate these projects and efforts to create active public spaces with connected transit, streets, and parks.
Pioneer Square sits in one of the busiest transit hubs on the West Coast, where thousands of people pass through daily, many on foot. Promoting pedestrian safety and access for everyone includes efforts to fix curb ramps, broken sidewalks, maintain crosswalks and report broken streetlights and infrastructure. Recognizing that many people drive into Pioneer Square, we’re working with state and city agencies to manage parking supply and encourage drivers to park in low-rate garages.
The Alliance for Pioneer Square promotes public safety and civility in the Pioneer Square neighborhood. The Alliance for Pioneer Square engages the community through open-houses, one-on-one conversations, and resource provision to promote public safety and civility.
The Alliance for Pioneer Square strives to effectively market, brand, and promote Pioneer Square. We work with businesses, local governments, and community organizations to provide information and encourage people to support our shops, restaurants, galleries, and hotels.
