Expected Power Outages Along Alaskan Way

The following is a notice from Seattle Public Utilities:

Situation: About two months ago Seattle Tunnel Partners drilled into one of our conduits along Alaskan Way S.  It affected our service at a Port of Seattle facility at Pier 48, and at some traffic lights along Alaskan Way.  We rerouted power to restore service.  Now STP is needing to drill through the rerouted service in advance of the tunnel boring machine.  So, we are needing to go back to the original power feed and make repairs.  While we are at it we will provide Pier 48 with an upgraded service.

Most of the work will be behind STP’s fencing west of the Viaduct along Alaskan Way between S. King Street and S. Main Street.  This upcoming weekend, an underground civil crew will replace two vault lids along Alaskan Way: one at Jackson and one at Main. Neither traffic nor the pedestrian trail will be blocked.

Outages: The work to pull in service for Pier 48 will require an outage there, at several traffic signals along Alaskan Way (intersections with Columbia, Yesler, and Main), at the Port facility and its pedestrian path from 9 p.m. on Sat., Dec 15 to 5 a.m. on Sun. Dec. 16.  ESR, John Harvey has contacted these customers.  STP will be providing police officers at the traffic signals.  Work to prepare for the above will also cause about 200 other customers to be out from 3 a.m. to 5 a.m. on Sat Dec. 15 and then again from 3 a.m. to 5 a.m. on Sun. Dec. 16. These customers are on 1st Avenue S. and Occidental Avenue S. between S. King Street and and  S. Dearborn Street.

Community Outreach:  The customers cited above are all being notified in advance. IF YOU DIDN’T GET AN OUTAGE NOTICE, YOU WILL NOT BE AFFECTED BY THE DECEMBER 15 & 16 OUTAGES.
