Spring Funding Drive

We’re happy to report that over the last year, we’ve achieved some pretty impressive goals in the neighborhood by furthering our advocacy, programming, marketing, and community action work to make a tangible difference. We negotiated a positive outcome in the important Alaskan Way Waterfront agreement, which will ensure vital access to the waterfront for the neighborhood. We also made great strides in supporting our local businesses in achieving success, and have devoted increased bandwidth to our communications and marketing efforts with the recent hire of our new Director of Communications. Also, within our parks and public places we expanded the flower basket program and installed fifty uniquely designed Pioneer Square bike racks (with more on the way).

All of this great work has occurred because of the support of people like you – people who live, work, visit, and believe in Pioneer Square as much as we do. Generous donations have allowed us to engage more deeply in the vital work of strengthening, preserving, and promoting the amazing assets the Pioneer Square neighborhood provides to Seattle residents and visitors alike.

We wanted to take a moment to let you know that on May 10, 2017 the Alliance will be officially kicking off our Spring Funding Drive by joining more than one thousand nonprofits in the annual Seattle Foundation GiveBIG event. We’re inviting you at this time to lend your support, and help us continue making Pioneer Square a strong, vibrant neighborhood. Here are the ways in which you can help:

Pioneer Square Spring Clean 2017

Saturday, April 8th, 9:00am to 12:00pm

Spring Clean is at our doorstep once again! Grab a co-worker, a neighbor, or that delinquent nephew and join us as we spruce up the neighborhood. Pull on those old college painting pants and get on with some graffiti abatement. Don grandpa’s dirty overalls and start yanking weeds. Whatever shabby old working clothes you have will do the trick. If you don’t have any, T-shirts will be provided along with coffee and snacks to get you pumped for the day.

Gilded Lamp Post Bases?!?!

Bronze BaseThey’re new. They’re shiny. They’re elegant. …They stand out like a sore thumb. In a district that’s accustomed to general disrepair, we’re not used to nice things on the street. So why are they here? Well, after a pole base was found broken on the SW corner of 1st Ave S and S Main St, we quickly reported the issue to the City via Find It Fix It. Like magic, a couple weeks later the base was replaced with said gilded looking base. We almost reported it to Find It Fix It again, but decided to dig deeper. A few rounds of emails to multiple City departments later, our friends at Seattle City Light give us the full scoop: It’s actually a cast bronze. It will patina over the next year to look just like all the other bases. So enjoy the shiny bronze color while it lasts! And reclaim some sense of your lost hope we can have nice things (we sure have, thank you SCL). Don’t be surprised to see more of these bases crop up around new construction, and as Seattle City Light replaces those that are irretrievably broken. These bases can be found at 1st Ave S and S Main St, and on both the north and south sides of the new 200 Occidental building.
