PS, I Love You Fund Program

Alliance for Pioneer Square is proud to announce the launch of PS, I Love You, a program that will provide direct financial support to small businesses in Pioneer Square following an investment by a private donor. These funds will help businesses stabilize and grow in a challenging economic climate. 

About the Funds 

The PS, I Love You initiative is designed to help small businesses in Pioneer Square navigate financial challenges and invest in their future. This initiative provides direct financial assistance to businesses that contribute to the vibrancy of our neighborhood. 

Eligible businesses can apply under two distinct funding categories: 

Stabilization Fund – For unexpected expenses, rent, payroll, operational costs, or other financial support to keep the business running in Pioneer Square. 

Large Equipment Fund – For purchasing or replacing equipment that enhances business capacity and long-term sustainability. 

This program reflects our commitment to business retention and neighborhood vitality, ensuring that Pioneer Square remains a welcoming place where all businesses can grow and thrive. 

Eligibility Requirements

Both categories of PS, I Love You are open to: 

✔️Small businesses (50 or fewer employees) located within the Pioneer Square Historic District (link to boundary map) 

✔️ Businesses that demonstrate a need for stabilization or equipment funding 

✔️ Businesses committed to contributing to the long-term success of the neighborhood 

How to Apply 

Applications Open: February 12, 2025 

Deadline: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until funds are fully distributed. The first-round application review will be Wednesday, February 19th.

What is the PS, I Love You Fund Program?

The PS, I Love You Program is a funding initiative from the Alliance for Pioneer Square, designed to support small businesses in the Pioneer Square neighborhood. The program provides financial assistance to help businesses stabilize operations or invest in essential equipment to improve long-term sustainability. 

Who is eligible to apply for the fund?

To be eligible, businesses must: 

✔️ An active lease or ownership of a space located in the Pioneer Square Historic District 

✔️ Be a small business (fewer than 50 employees) 

✔️ Demonstrate a need for stabilization or equipment funding 

✔️ Have a valid business license  

 What can the funds be used for?

The fund has two funding categories: 

Stabilization Fund – For unexpected expenses, rent, payroll, operational costs, or other financial support to keep the business running in Pioneer Square. 

Large Equipment Fund – For purchasing or replacing equipment that enhances business capacity and long-term sustainability. 

How do I apply?

Can home-based businesses or nonprofits apply? 

At this time, the fund is available to retail brick-and-mortar businesses located within Pioneer Square. Nonprofits that operate a retail brick-and-mortar are eligible. 

How much funding can I receive?

Stabilization Fund – Funding awarded on a case-by-case basis with a review by a community panel. Rent support request requires a 50% match from the business. 

Large Equipment Fund – up to $10,000 reimbursable with a 25% match from the business 

Can I submit prior purchases?

Funds are available for expenses or purchases from Jan 1, 2025 through the end of the program.  

Is this a loan? Do I need to pay it back?

No, this is a gift of funds, it does not need to be repaid. However, recipients must comply with all reporting and follow-up requirements outlined in the fund agreement. 

How will I know if I’m awarded?

Applicants will receive a confirmation email upon submission. Award decisions will be made on a rolling basis. If selected, businesses will be notified via email, with instructions on the next steps. If denied, businesses will be notified via email. For additional information requests you may be contacted via phone or email.  

Will receiving this fund impact my taxes?

Funds are considered taxable income. Consult a tax professional to understand the implications for your business. 

I’m confused on what the Stabilization Form can be applied to. Can you give some examples?

The program is designed to meet the challenges of today. You know your business better than anyone and are in the best position to define the scope of assistance that will allow you to sustain your operations. Our goal is to meet your needs as businesses within the larger context of ensuring Pioneer Square is a thriving, healthy business district. 

Can I apply if I’ve received other funds from Alliance for Pioneer Square?

Yes, businesses that have received previous financial assistance can still apply, as long as they can demonstrate a continuing financial need. 

What happens if I don’t use all the funds as intended?

Funds must be used for the stated purpose in your application. Businesses may be required to submit a final report on how funds were used. Misuse of funds may result in repayment requirements. The Large Equipment Fund is a reimbursement.  

I love this neighborhood but want to help in other ways. Do you have other sources of funding for my idea?

This program is specifically for businesses. In the next couple of months, the Pioneer Square BIA Inspiration Fund will be launched. This fund is for community members and enthusiasts to implement projects and programs making a positive impact in the Pioneer Square neighborhood. Project goals include celebrating neighborhood diversity, enhancing public spaces, and neighborhood storytelling
