Seattle City Light Work Along 1st Avenue Sunday, September 30, 2012

Seattle City Light will be pulling fiber optic cable through underground conduit on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Crews will be working Sunday, Sept. 30 from 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. on First Avenue, pulling cable.  They will be working in one block increments (south to north).  All of the permits have been secured.  Significant traffic interruption is not expected.  See above map.

  • What: One-day job
  • Why: Data fiber cables for Seattle City Light and other City Departments.
  • Where: First Avenue from Cherry to King streets in the utility access holes shown with an “M” on the attached map.  A City Light truck will stay at each of the utility holes shown for approximately two hours

What you can expect:

  • No planned outages
  • Traffic impacts possibly at the intersections where the work will occur
  • Uniform police officers will direct traffic
  • Parking restrictions on the west side of 1st Avenue and on side streets
  • City Light work trucks on the street

The yellow highlights on the attached map show where “No Parking’ signs will be placed. Weekend Intersection Closure at Broadway and Union

Weekday Work:

  • Denny to Howell
    • o Street restoration
  • Pine to Madison

  • o Storm drain and electrical duct bank installation

Weeknight Work:

  • Madison intersection

  • Union intersection

Traffic Advisory:

  • The intersection of Broadway and Union will be closed, with the exception of one northbound lane, the weekend of September 29th and 30th.
  • Broadway will be closed between Madison and Marion from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. for up to two weeks beginning September 27th. There will be a signed detour.

Work Hours:

  • Weekdays  7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Weeknights  8:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.
  • Saturday  7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Water Main, Storm Drain, and Electrical Duct Bank Installation

Weekday Work:

  • Electrical duct bank installation between 1st and 2nd   
  • Water main installation between 6th and 7th
  • Water main installation between 8th and 10th

Weekend Work:

  • Electrical duct bank and vault installation between 1st and 2nd
  • Water main installation between 6th and Maynard
  • Storm drain installation at 8th Avenue intersection
  • Work Hours:
  • Weekdays 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Weekend 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Note on Water Main Shutoffs:

October 6th – 7th will begin the first of three weekend water shutoffs in October for the Chinatown/International District. The shutoffs will begin at 10:00 p.m. on Saturdays and continue until 10:00 a.m. on Sundays. If your building will be affected you will receive a notice directly from Seattle Public Utilities at least 72 hours in advance.

Waterfront snapshot through Thursday, Sept. 27

Construction overview

  • No significant work is planned at the waterfront this week. For a weekly update of the latest traffic closures, please visit our webpage.

 

Continuing work

  • Ongoing work to install underground monitoring equipment, which is a part of a comprehensive program, helps crews minimize ground movement and protect structures during tunneling. During the upcoming week, work in this program will occur:
    • 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday: Crews will shift the southbound lane on Western Avenue between Columbia and Marion streets. Two-way traffic will be maintained.
    • 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday: Marion Street will be reduced to one lane between Western Avenue and Post Alley.
  • Viaduct reinforcement work continues. All southbound lanes of the viaduct from the north end of the Battery Street Tunnel to the West Seattle Bridge will be closed nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.
