Public Safety & Street Civility in Pioneer Square

On Tuesday August 11th, 2015 we conducted a Public Safety Open House to continue the conversation about public safety and street civility in Pioneer Square. We had a great turnout, but the conversation didn’t stop there! We also created a brief online survey which closed August 21st to hear more opinions on how to make a safer Pioneer Square. On behalf of the Alliance for Pioneer Square, the Pioneer Square BIA, and the Pioneer Square Residents Council we thank you for sharing your concerns and ideas. Your input was vitally important and will be key in developing a multifaceted set of strategies regarding street civility and public safety.

Those strategies will include:

Advocacy with the Mayor, Police Chief, City Departments and the City Council
Implementation of tools and strategies for neighborhood residents and businesses
Communication

Downtown Streetcar Open House Tomorrow (11/19/14)

SDOT is holding an open house on the Center City Streetcar project tomorrow evening – covering the City Council approved segment that would tie the South Lake Union and the First Hill streetcar lines together.

The open house will be from 5:00 – 7:30 PM, Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 85 Pike Street, on the 3rd floor of the Economy Building.

This streetcar line will operate in its own lane on First Avenue (to ensure fast, reliable service) with trains arriving every 5 minutes. Stops are planned near Pike Place Market, the Marion Street Bridge to the ferries at Colman Dock and Pioneer Square.

Project staff will present information on urban design opportunities, connection options between First Avenue and Westlake, parking strategies and construction phasing throughout the event. Please drop in anytime between 5:00 and 7:30PM to find out about this exciting connection in Seattle’s future.

Community input needed on proposed police reforms

Community Police Commission invites community input on proposed reforms

The Community Police Commission (CPC) needs your help to create a stronger, safer and more connected community.

On September 20, the CPC issued draft policy recommendations for public review. These recommendations are in the areas of bias-free policing, stops and detentions, and in-car video recordings. The CPC is also seeking public comment on the Seattle Police Department’s proposed use of force policy. The CPC must issue a report with its final policy recommendations in these areas on November 15.

Public meetings are being held during October with Seattle residents to get their perspectives about SPD and to gather their thoughts on the CPC recommendations. Many of these meetings are being arranged to ensure we reach those community members most impacted by police practices.

All Seattle residents have a stake in better policing. We hope you will attend a scheduled meeting or offer your views online.
