Construction Update: Work at Yesler Way and Second Avenue Alley

From Seattle City Light:

Seattle City Light is replacing an aging ductbank atYesler Wayand Second Avenue Alley.  The work will improve electrical reliability for the neighborhood.  We have a work schedule change and we want to make you aware of it.

City Light plans to work this weekend-Saturday, July 7 and Sunday, July 8.  We must work in the middle of the street to do trenching acrossYesler Way.  The work has been scheduled to avoid impacting weekday commuters.  Two lanes of traffic will be kept open and uniformed police officers will be on hand to assist.  We plan to work from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

Thank you for your patience with this important project.  If you have questions or concerns about it, contact Mark VanOss at (206) 684-3279 or mark.vanoss@seattle.gov.  Find future updates on the project’s Website at: http://seattle.gov/light/aboutus/construction/

Pioneer Square Fire Festival July 7, 2012

The Pioneer Square Fire Festival, a Seafair Sanctioned Community Event, will take place on Saturday, July 7 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Occidental Square Park (South Main Street between 1st Avenue and 2nd Avenue South). The annual festival commemorates the re-birth of the Pioneer Square area following the Great Seattle Fire of June 6, 1889 that destroyed most of downtown Seattle and gave rise to the historic Pioneer Square neighborhood.

The Pioneer Square Fire Festival gives attendees of all ages a glimpse into Seattle’s past and features displays by the Last Resort Fire Department, the Seattle Metropolitan Police Museum and the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park-Seattle. These displays include antique and classic fire engines, classic police cars, a gold mining demonstration, and other family-friendly activities.  Kids can color a picture while sitting in the back of a 1940 fire engine, try on some firefighter turnout gear, learn about fire safety, and say hi to Smokey Bear and Pluggie the fire hydrant.

Located one to two blocks away from Occidental Square Park are: the Last Resort Fire Department Museum, located in Seattle Fire Department Headquarters; the Seattle Metropolitan Police Museum located in a historic building; and the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park – Seattle, located in the restored Cadillac Hotel.  All three museums have activities for kids, and they will be open and FREE to the public on the day of the Fire Festival.

For more information visit the Fire Festival page on the Last Resort Fire Department website.
